Henry County Projected Versus Actual Release
A projected release date is a sentence calculation based on facts known at the time. VADOC uses that exact term in its operating procedure and may confirm the current projection. The public locator can display a release-date field on some records, but the label must be copied exactly from the live result. Do not silently call every displayed date actual. An actual release is a completed custody event supported by the corrections record, signed release documents, and a status change.
Pretrial custody works differently. A person awaiting trial at the Henry County Adult Detention Center does not have a sentence endpoint to calculate. Release may depend on bond, recognizance, dismissal, a court order, or resolution of another hold. A sentenced local inmate may have a calculable term, but the responsible jail and court must account for jail credit, sentence structure, and legal authority.
- Projected release date
- The current computed endpoint, subject to new credits, losses, orders, or holds.
- Actual release date
- The date the responsible custodian records a completed release or discharge.
- Detainer
- A notice that another authority may take custody when the current hold ends.
- Jail credit
- Time in qualifying prior confinement applied to the active sentence.
Find Henry County Projected Release Dates
Start by deciding whether the sentence is local, state, or federal. The Henry County booking date is not a safe shortcut. A person can have more than one case, concurrent or consecutive terms, credited pretrial time, or a detainer. The agency responsible for computing the active sentence is the best source for the current date.
- Identify the full name, date of birth, booking or DOC number, sentencing court, and known custody dates.
- For a state-responsible sentence, open the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator. Search by seven-digit DOC ID or by the required name fields.
- Copy the displayed status, facility or district, and exact release-date label. Note when the record was accessed because VADOC updates daily.
- For a county sentence or pretrial booking, call the ADC control room at 276-618-7158 and obtain the existing movement or release entry. Use the court file for the controlling order.
- For a disputed or unclear state calculation, contact VADOC's Correspondence Unit and Court and Legal Section with enough case detail to identify the record.
The Henry County released inmate records path explains how court dispositions and the jail movement entry fit around this date inquiry. A current roster should not be used to find someone who has already left that jail.
VADOC's official time-computation page describes the systems and variables used in Virginia. The VADOC time-computation source gives context for a Henry County state sentence.
The source confirms that a date comes from the applicable credit system and case inputs, not one percentage applied to the sentence.
Note: Record the field label and access date whenever a future release date is copied from a dynamic locator.
Virginia Credits Shape Henry County Release
VADOC calculates active state-responsible sentences longer than twelve months. Responsibility for other computations depends on the sentence and custodian. Inputs include credited pretrial jail time, the total active sentence, concurrent or consecutive structure, offense date, credit system, earning class, disciplinary events, and later court action. When one input changes, the projected release date can be recalculated.
Good Conduct Allowance applies to parole-eligible felonies committed before January 1, 1995, and misdemeanors before July 1, 2008. Its class rates range from no credit to thirty days for each thirty served under the cited Virginia statutes. Earned Sentence Credits apply to covered felonies committed on or after January 1, 1995. Virginia Code § 53.1-202.2 makes one earned credit equal one day deducted.
Section 53.1-202.3 separates ESC-1 and ESC-2. ESC-1 permits zero to 4.5 days per thirty for listed offenses, while ESC-2 permits zero to fifteen days per thirty for eligible sentences, based on classification. The common 85 percent shorthand grows from modern truth in sentencing and the older 4.5-day maximum. It is not a universal calculator. Enhanced eligibility, exclusions, multiple sentences, jail credits, and statutory exceptions can change the result.
The official statute display shows the different rates and eligibility structure. The Virginia earned-credit law is the source for these Henry County state-release calculations.
The image shows why offense and credit class must be known before estimating time. A flat sentence fraction can produce the wrong date.
What Changes Henry County Release Dates
A date moves when the facts behind the calculation move. Some changes add or remove credit. Others alter the sentence itself or prevent community release on the expected day. The public field may lag the underlying action, so the maintaining agency should confirm a major change.
| Factor | Effect on the date | Best confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Earned-credit class | Changes the rate at which eligible days reduce the term | VADOC computation and credit record |
| Disciplinary event | May reduce earned credit or change classification | Agency calculation and disciplinary record |
| Jail-credit correction | Adds or removes credited pretrial time | Court order and sentence computation |
| Concurrent or consecutive terms | Changes how multiple sentences combine | Signed judgments and VADOC calculation |
| Court amendment | Can alter the active term or legal basis | Signed amended order |
| Detainer or hold | May cause transfer to another custodian instead of community release | Custody movement and receiving-agency record |
| Parole action | May create a conditional release path for an eligible sentence | Board decision plus actual VADOC release record |
Weather can also affect release logistics. VADOC says facility release occurs by 11:59 p.m. on the date of release, weather permitting. That outside limit does not promise a morning exit or pickup time. It applies to the state process, not as a published Henry County ADC desk schedule.
Virginia Code § 53.1-28 gives the VADOC Director limited authority to discharge a state prisoner within thirty days before normal term expiration for prerelease programming. It is not a county-jail rule and does not create a personal right to an early date.
Note: A detainer can end VADOC or county custody while sending the person straight into another authority's custody.
Henry County Jail Release Timing
The state and local paths must remain separate. VADOC computes its state-responsible sentences under statewide rules. The Henry County Adult Detention Center holds pretrial detainees, people serving local terms, work-release participants, and some people awaiting another authority. Work release permits approved community activity while custody continues. It is not full release.
For a local term, obtain the sentencing order and ask the ADC for the current computed or actual release information it maintains. The control room is at 800 DuPont Road, Martinsville, VA 24112, and 276-618-7158. Release desk hours are not published. Ask whether the date concerns release to the community or a transfer. If staff cannot provide enough detail by phone, request the existing jail movement entry rather than asking the sheriff to create a new calculation.
A bond order, dismissal, or time-served judgment can explain why custody should end, but the ADC record supplies the actual movement time. One dismissed charge does not remove another case, sentence, warrant, or detainer. Search both the relevant district and circuit matters when the file history spans more than one court.
Sentence responsibility can also shift the search path. A person may remain physically in a local jail while serving state-responsible time, which means VADOC may control the calculation even though the public sees a county address. Ask which authority owns the active sentence. Then request the date from that authority and use the local jail only to confirm the person's physical movement. This prevents a county booking date from being mistaken for the start of every credit calculation.
The same boundary applies to Patrick Henry Correctional Unit. It is a VADOC state facility, so its release calculation and discharge papers come from VADOC, not the Henry County sheriff.
Henry County Actual Release Documents
VADOC describes several documents created at state release. A person who has satisfied the sentence may be discharged or may leave on parole. The department provides a notification-of-release letter. Depending on the case, the person signs an Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, and Conditions of Parole before a witness. Those records show the legal transition more directly than a future locator date.
The official VADOC facility-release page identifies the release documents and state logistics used after a Henry County state sentence.
The document list is the bridge from projection to proof. It can show whether the completed event was discharge, parole, or a release governed by stated conditions.
For a durable state record, request the actual release or discharge date, release mode, notification letter, Order of Release, and receiving agency or detainer entry when maintained. For a local jail episode, request the booking sheet and release or movement entry from the sheriff. Keep each agency's record in its own scope.
VADOC lists the Correspondence Unit and Court and Legal Section at P.O. Box 26963, Richmond, VA 23261, with 804-674-3000 and docmail@vadoc.virginia.gov. Provide a DOC ID and case details when known, while avoiding needless sensitive information in ordinary email.
Confirm Henry County Inmate Release Dates
On or after the projected day, look for a completed record. For VADOC, compare the locator status with the notification-of-release letter and signed Order of Release. A community district can support physical release under supervision. An institution still shows custody. A missing record can mean final discharge, a name problem, or locator scope, so absence alone is not enough.
A release notification can provide timely corroboration. The Henry County VINELink release check explains the separate jail and VADOC enrollment paths. Read an anticipated notice as projected. Read a release or transfer alert as ambiguous until the sending agency identifies which branch occurred.
If two official dates conflict, note the access date and exact field name for each. One may be projected while the other is actual. One may record a court order while another records physical movement. Contact the agency that created the event and retain its response. Do not choose the date that best fits an assumption.
- State prisoner: VADOC calculation, release papers, and status transition.
- County detainee: court authority plus the ADC movement record.
- Parole-eligible case: Board outcome plus later corrections release proof.
- Detainer case: releasing and receiving agency records.
Note: The strongest statement names the custodian, the exact event, and whether the date was projected or completed.
