Henry County Release Status
A person leaves Henry County Adult Detention Center in more than one way. Bond, recognizance, a court order, completion of a local sentence, or dismissal may return someone to the community. Other departures continue custody. A transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections, another jail, federal authorities, or an immigration detainer holder is not freedom from confinement. The Henry County release or movement entry is the best starting point because it identifies what the jail actually did. A court order may explain why staff were allowed to act, but it may come before processing or be blocked by another hold.
Once a person is no longer in the current confinement display, the old booking does not become a public release history. The record may instead remain with the sheriff, the court, VADOC, or a receiving federal agency. Search the system tied to the last known custody. A missing name proves only that the chosen display has no current match. It does not show the time, reason, destination, or terms of the Henry County release.
- Release
- The end of the identified custody event, sometimes followed by supervision.
- Transfer
- A move to another custodian or facility, not a return to the community.
- Discharge
- The end of the authority described by the issuing agency. Check whether it means custody, supervision, or both.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that may send the person to another custodian when the current hold ends.
Henry County Release Routes
The label attached to the final movement matters. It tells the reader which record should come next and prevents a transfer from being reported as a community release. Henry County jail staff record the physical movement. Courts document the legal basis. VADOC controls a state prison discharge or parole record, while federal systems cover their own custody only.
| Route | Meaning | Next place to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Release to the community under court-set terms | ADC movement entry and court docket |
| Time served or sentence completion | The identified custodial term is satisfied | Signed judgment and actual jail release entry |
| Dismissal or court order | A court action may permit release if no other hold remains | Every related case plus the ADC record |
| VADOC transfer | County custody ends while state custody continues | VADOC locator and release documents |
| Federal or ICE handoff | Another sovereign takes custody | BOP or ICE locator after local confirmation |
| Parole or supervised release | Secure custody ends with community rules | VADOC locator and assigned supervision office |
Probation is different from parole. A court can impose probation without a prison release, while parole is conditional community release for an eligible sentence. “Time served” also has a narrow meaning. It addresses the stated custodial component, not every other case, cost, supervision term, or lawful obligation.
Read a Henry County Release Record
A useful request ties the exit back to one booking episode. Names alone can collide, and an arrest date can differ from the booking date. Ask for fields as maintained rather than asking the sheriff to decide whether someone is “really released.” The final entry may use a release code, disposition code, movement type, destination, or receiving agency. Preserve the agency's wording.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | The person and booking episode connected to the record |
| Booking number | The local custody event, separate from later bookings |
| Admission date and time | When the displayed episode began |
| Actual release or movement time | When the ADC recorded the departure |
| Release or disposition code | The recorded type or reason, subject to agency definitions |
| Receiving agency or destination | Whether another custodian took control, if maintained |
| Booking photograph | The intake image for that episode, not proof of guilt or release |
Compare the movement with the court file. A bond order, dismissal, or judgment may explain the legal authority, but the signed order does not supply the ADC's physical exit time. If the record shows VADOC, BOP, ICE, or another jail as the destination, describe the event as a transfer unless the receiving agency later records a community release.
Request Henry County Release Records
Henry County does not publish a stable release-history screen. Direct a precise Virginia Freedom of Information Act request to Capt. A. Hall at the Henry County Sheriff's Office. The policy accepts mail, fax, email, an in-person request, or a telephone request. A request need not cite “FOIA,” but it must give the requester's name and legal address and describe existing records with reasonable detail.
- Identify the person and booking episode with the full known name, admission date, and booking number when available.
- Ask for the admission time, actual release time, release or disposition code, receiving agency or destination if kept, and the routine adult booking photograph.
- Request electronic copies in the form ordinarily maintained and ask for an advance estimate before work begins.
- Keep the written response and compare the fields with the court and any receiving system.

The sheriff must give one of the statutory responses within five working days. A written impracticality notice can add seven working days. Charges may reflect actual search, staff, and copy costs without general overhead, and a deposit may be required when an estimate exceeds $200. The general county schedule lists black-and-white pages through 11 by 17 inches at $0.25, administrative staff time at $20 an hour, and manager time at $30 an hour. Ask the sheriff custodian, not the general county office, for custody and photograph records.
Note: Virginia law does not require an office to create a custom report or answer a question when no responsive record exists.
Virginia Rules for Henry Release Records
Virginia Code § 2.2-3704 sets the request process, response time, and actual-cost framework. It permits inspection, copies, and an ordinarily maintained electronic format, but it does not compel a new record. Law-enforcement exemptions may protect parts of a file. Juvenile records have far stricter limits, and sealed records may no longer be open through an electronic court search.
An absent roster or court result is not proof that no booking existed. It may reflect release, a transfer, delay, confidentiality, sealing, or a search mismatch.
Routine adult intake photographs receive specific treatment under Virginia Code § 2.2-3706. Disclosure may be delayed when release would jeopardize a felony investigation, and other lawful limits still apply. Court records follow their own access provisions. Henry General District Court and Henry Circuit Court are separate sources even though both are on Kings Mountain Road.
Sealed Henry County Release Records
Virginia's sealing framework took effect on July 1, 2026. Eligible matters can be removed from public electronic access under Title 19.2, Chapter 23.2. That change affects how a later search should be read. A blank court result may reflect a legal access limit rather than proof that an arrest, booking, or release never occurred.
Do not use an old third-party image or copied docket to defeat the current official status. Ask the clerk only for a named, nonconfidential record that the law permits the clerk to disclose. Henry County release verification should rely on the records that remain legally available, and any conclusion should state which agency supplied it and when it was checked.
Find a Henry County Release
Start with the exact system in which the person last appeared. Henry Citizen Connect is useful for current confinement and recent admissions, but it has no supported public release view. The strongest local proof is the ADC's actual release or movement entry. Add the court disposition to explain the authority, and follow the receiving system when the entry records a transfer.
- Search Henry Sheriff Citizen Connect for current custody, name variants, and the correct booking episode.
- Call the ADC control room at 276-618-7158 for the last movement, then request the release entry if staff cannot give the detail.
- Check the Virginia court case hub and read each related Henry County or Martinsville case.
- Use VADOC, BOP, or ICE only when the known sentence, detainer, or destination points to that authority.
- Save the source date and describe the result precisely, including “transfer” when custody continued.
Released people normally leave the current jail roster. Roster absence is the start of verification, not a release record.
The Henry County Released Last 24 Hours page explains the same-day fallback when a broad list is needed. A named-person search should remain tied to the booking number and official records.
VADOC Henry County Release Search
The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator covers state-responsible prisoners and people under state community supervision. It is not the Henry County jail roster. A person released from the ADC on bond may never appear there. A person transferred from the ADC to VADOC may appear as still confined, while someone released under supervision may remain searchable with a community district.
| Search field | Use | Reading caution |
|---|---|---|
| First and last name | Broad person search | Try exact variants and compare identity |
| Seven-digit VADOC number | Best match for a known state record | Not the same as a county booking number |
| Alias or middle detail | Resolve name differences | Do not treat a no-match as release |
| Location or community district | Distinguish prison from supervision | A district match is not secure custody |
| Release date or status wording | Read the agency's state-custody result | Separate projected from actual |
The official form includes a disclaimer and warns that public information may update on a daily cycle. The VADOC locator source is shown below.
This screen identifies the correct statewide portal. It does not turn a future date into proof that the person has physically left custody.
Henry County Recent Release Limits
Citizen Connect visibly offers current confinements, “Last 24 Hour Admits,” and seven-day admits. None is a release list. Henry County suppresses the vendor's Releases form, and the undocumented session-dependent backend is not a stable public source. Do not relabel admissions as exits or publish an unsupported endpoint.
For a list, define the interval and ask for existing release entries. The sheriff need not create a new report, but may supply records already kept for that period. VINELink can provide an event alert for one registered person. It is not a historical countywide feed, and its combined “released or transferred” wording may require a call to the ADC.
Note: A seven-day admission button cannot establish who left the Henry County jail during the last three days.
Getting Home After Henry Release
RADAR's PART Southern Route runs on DuPont Road and lists the Henry County Adult Detention Center. The transit plan describes hourly weekday service and ten one-way trips. Current PART rider information lists fare-free service, general weekday operation from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and closures on named holidays and some weather days.
That route is a practical travel option only when the stop, service day, and actual release time align. It is not proof that the sheriff schedules rides. Confirm current service before relying on it, especially near a holiday or weather closure. The official rider page's service limits are visible below.
The schedule helps plan a lawful pickup or bus connection, while the ADC record remains the source for the actual time of release.
Henry County Supervision After Release
Martinsville Probation and Parole District 22 is the local VADOC community-supervision office for the Henry, Martinsville, and Patrick area. A person assigned there is not in secure custody, but still has state supervision requirements. Verify the person through the VADOC locator, then confirm the district by telephone when needed. There is no public Henry County probationer roster, and the current VADOC directory has shown a mismatched service-area tooltip.
A Parole Board grant is not an exit timestamp. It records a decision that can begin planning, conditions, and notices. Confirm physical release through VADOC's signed Order of Release, notification letter, or actual locator transition. A detainer can take the person to another custodian even after VADOC ends its hold. District 22 can confirm only information it may lawfully disclose.
Henry Release and Local Reentry
Virginia's 2025 transitional-services report describes local touchpoints that are specific to Henry County and nearby Martinsville and Patrick County. Henry ADC has work-release activity, community-services-board referrals, and continuity for already prescribed Suboxone. Piedmont Adult Recovery Court and regional pretrial and local probation services also form part of the local network.
These findings show where a person may be routed. They are not promises of admission, aid, medication, or current eligibility. Confirm the present referral rule with the responsible office. Work release also does not mean full release: an approved person can leave for authorized activity while remaining an inmate subject to return and custodial rules.
Henry Release Alerts and Federal Records
Virginia Jail VINE covers Henry ADC custody events. VADOC notification is a separate enrollment, and registry tracking is separate again. Save the responsible agency, identifier, event wording, and alert time. If a jail alert says “released or transferred,” call the sending jail and check VADOC when a state sentence or destination supports that path.
The BOP Inmate Locator handles federal custody. A past release date and no location mean the person is no longer in BOP custody as of that displayed date. They do not rule out federal supervision, a residential placement, state or local custody, or ICE. Federal pretrial records may require the court docket because the U.S. Marshals Service has no matching public former-detainee locator.
The BOP's explanation of released-result limits appears on its official records page.
The federal result answers a BOP question only. It should not be merged with the Henry ADC record without evidence connecting the two.
Henry Release Orders and Courts
Henry General District Court and Henry Circuit Court occupy Suites A and B at 3160 Kings Mountain Road, but they serve different roles. A GDC bond, dismissal, or preliminary record may explain a local release. A Circuit Court sentencing order controls a felony outcome. Neither court supplies the ADC's physical exit timestamp.
Search every known case number. A dismissed count does not dissolve a sentence, warrant, bond condition, or detainer in another case. Martinsville is an independent city, so confirm whether the incident belongs in Henry County or Martinsville and whether it began in General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District, or Circuit Court. The official Virginia case routing page directs searches to the right court system.
The court path can explain the legal result. Pair it with the custodian's movement record to establish what happened physically.
Henry Release to ICE Custody
A Henry ADC handoff on an immigration detainer ends local custody but continues confinement under a different authority. After the ADC confirms transfer, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator by a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or by exact name details. A no-match can result from spelling, age rules, upload delay, discretionary omission, or the system's time limit.
ICE says ODLS includes some people released from its custody for only 60 days. That is why silence after a local transfer cannot prove community release. Retry exact identifiers and use the ERO information channel or counsel when the record remains absent. The official ICE explanation shows the released-person window.
The local movement record proves the end of Henry ADC custody only. ICE must confirm any later immigration-custody event.
Henry Release or Current Custody
Choose the source by custodian and question. The systems overlap at transfer points but do not replace one another.
| Source | Best use | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Citizen Connect | Current Henry confinement and admit windows | Release reason, time, or destination |
| ADC movement record | Actual end of the local booking episode | Later status under another authority |
| Virginia courts | Legal order and case disposition | Physical exit after processing |
| VADOC locator and documents | State custody, discharge, parole, or supervision | An ordinary county bond release |
| BOP locator | Federal custody and displayed federal release date | State, local, ICE, or supervision status |
| ICE ODLS | Covered immigration detention records | Community release when no match appears |
What if two official dates conflict? Record both access dates and exact field labels. Check whether one is projected and the other actual, or one is an order and the other a movement. Ask the agency that created the underlying event to resolve its field.
Henry Release Facility Changed
The current Henry County Adult Detention Center began holding people on March 25, 2022. The 400-bed site was built for maximum, medium, and minimum custody and includes work-release space. State transition reports show early post-move program delays tied to staffing, while the later transitional-services report documents work release in operation.
Older jail descriptions may therefore point to the former setting or describe programs before the transition settled. Confirm the current facility and practice through the official ADC page. The source also publishes the present DuPont Road address and control-room telephone.
The facility identity helps route the record request, but its capacity and opening date do not reveal how many people were released in any period.
Henry County Release Facilities
Henry County release research crosses more than one custodial and supervision system. The Adult Detention Center handles local adult custody. Patrick Henry Correctional Unit and the statewide VADOC system cover state-responsible prisoners. Danville's regional juvenile facility follows confidential juvenile-court routes. District 22 is a supervision office, not a jail. BOP and ICE answer separate federal questions.
- Henry County Adult Detention Center: verify a local exit through the ADC movement entry, court, and VINE.
- Patrick Henry Correctional Unit: use VADOC discharge, parole, and release documents.
- Danville Juvenile Detention Center: authorized parties use juvenile court and court services.
- Virginia Department of Corrections: statewide custody and supervision records.
- Martinsville Probation and Parole District 22: local community-supervision verification.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: federal custody and released-result records.
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention network: immigration custody after a confirmed handoff.
